it doesn’t have to be all about me you say
it needs to be about life, about consciousness…
about equality and freedom and social awareness
it needs to be about the world around me and not me.
you’ve said it on two-hundred forty-three pages
injustice i scream…
i can take on the burden of the world but only when
i am whole and i have settled my own demons
then i can be superman to others; saving lives
making a difference in the scale that you have intended that we be measured.
but until i have become a full person; i will have to act
in the small parts that am accustomed to; making a difference in
my friends…in trivial conquests such as love and sanity and kindness
and i will save lives, not in thousands but one by one
those who silently die of unrequited love and despair of the future
i, in the difference of the small things i have done, have assumed
what you have preached…on a smaller scale. in less grandeur
but on the same element as all the great people before me.
i write about myself and only my sentiments. but they are shared
by thousands and i save souls one by one.
